How to change the hostname?

• Gnome: >Applications menu< / >Settings< / >netzwork<
• KDE3: >Start< / >System< / >netzwork<

Select the tab 'general'. There you can observe and change the hostname. Attention: Do not use any special character for the hostname! This may lead to problems.

How to change the IP address?

• Gnome: >Applications menu< / >Settings< / >netzwork connections<
• KDE3: >Start< / >System< / >Netzwork<
• Xfce: Icon in the Menubar

• The competition network connection must have neither a default router nor an primary DNS!
• The internet network connection must have a default router and an primary DNS!

To disable these information, you can use the NetworkManager.

• choose 'Edit connections'
• select the active competition connection

Select the needed connection (e.g. Wired Connection 1) and press the Edit button. Afterwards the following additional dialog will be opened.

Please select IPv4 and Ipv6 Settings and change it as follows:

• Method 'Automatic (DHCP) addresses only'
  This will avoid the primary DNS.
• click on Routes 1
• 2 ignore routes
• only on this network

If this is not possible or it doesn't solve the problem, use a static configuration.

Select tab 'IPv4Settings'. If you don't have an DHCP server in you network, or if you need a dedicated setup (e.g. for the liveticker PC) you should select the 'Manual' 1 method. Afterwards assign the IP address by pressing 2 'Add' and filling in the values: 'Address' something like 192.168.2.X, 'Netmask' 255.255.255.0 If you want to have internet access, fill in the gateway address, otherwise leaf the field empty.

If you are using static/manual method please write down the address. In case of manual configuration, take care of the following restrictions:

• The upper three parts of the IP-Address (e.g. 192.168.2.x ) identify the network. So these must by the same for all PCs connected to the same network.
• For different networks (like for the liveticker) at least one of the upper three parts must differ ( e.g. 192.168.2.x vs. 192.168.56.x). 
• The last part X must differ for all PC at the same network.

Attention:
If your PC has multiple network connections, only one connection shall have a Gateway!

How to configure the extended Desktop?

You need to connect the additional monitor (data projector) first.

Dependent on your window manager (grafical interface) you find the dialog as follows:

• Gnome: >Applications menu< / >Settings< / >display<
• KDE3: >Start< / >System< / >display<

If you have two monitors connected, you have the opportunity to arrange these and to extend desktop. Apply the settings and close the window.
